Turkish Embassy Launches Its Third Photo Contest On Instagram

Vaşington Büyükelçiliği 13.12.2013

The Turkish Embassy in Washington D.C. is inviting you to join its third “Picture Turkey” contest on the photo-sharing site Instagram.

The contest, which will run from December 15, 2013 to January 31, 2014, is an opportunity for visitors and residents to reflect various aspects of Turkish culture, history and geography which they experienced on their visit to Turkey.

The theme for the Embassy’s Winter Instagram contest will be “Turkey: Crossroad of Civilizations”. Many diverse civilizations and religions have called Turkey their home throughout centuries. At the intersection of Asia and Europe, Turkey inspires visitors from all around the world with its centuries-old heritage enriched by a synthesis of Eastern and Western civilizations. Be it Hagia Sophia in Istanbul or the Mausoleum of Antiochus I on Mount Nemrut, this unique heritage of Turkey provides world travelers with a rich historical, cultural and social perspective on diversity, peace and humanity. Visitors can submit photos that best capture this rich cultural legacy of Turkey.

All citizens of Turkey and the U.S. are eligible to participate in the “Picture Turkey” contest.

Entering is easy:

  • Follow @turkishembassydc on Instagram
  • Upload your photos capturing our theme “Turkey: Crossroad of Civilizations” with the hashtag #PictureTurkey and let us know where the picture was taken in your caption.

The submissions will be judged based on three criteria:

1. How visually appealing is the Instagram photo?

2. How well does the Instagram photo represent Turkey?

3. How well does the Instagram photo follow the theme?

The Embassy will announce the winner on its official Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages in February 2014. The winning photo will be enlarged and displayed at the Turkish Embassy for a month, after which it will be sent to the winner.
