by the CICA Chairmanship

Regarding the floods in Pakistan

The Chairmanship of Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) would like to express its concern about the devastation and destruction caused by the floods affecting CICA Member State, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The flash floods in north-west Pakistan since late July have caused great loss of life and wide-spread damage to infrastructure, livestock and property in rural areas. According to the Pakistani authorities, more than 1,100 people died and around 14 million people have been adversely affected as a result of the floods. An estimated 150,000 families require immediate emergency assistance such as food, clean drinking water, tents, and medical services.

As an act of solidarity in this difficult time of Pakistan, the Chairmanship would like to appeal to the CICA Member States to provide assistance to Pakistan through either bilateral means or the United Nations-managed Pakistan Emergency Response Fund.
